Esports powerhouse META and Belgian telecom provider Proximus have signed an exclusive 18-month contract to bring the official Belgian League for one of esports’ hottest properties, Riot Games’ League of Legends, to the masses.
Rebranded the “Belgian League presented by Proximus”, all matches will now also be shown on Proximus Pickx, Proximus’s own Twitch.tv channels with steps being implemented to bring the entire League to TV in the near future.
“We are extremely happy to welcome Proximus as the leading sponsor and co-broadcaster for the next seasons of the Belgian League. Proximus has shown that it sees esports as something that is here to stay and that will become the next big thing to cover.
Combining the most exciting esports league in Belgium with the power of the largest telecom operator will further increase the visibility and potential for the league as a whole,” says Steven Leunens, Director of Operations at META.
Esports in general is on the rise with League of Legends attracting more than 80 million players every month and the World Championship drawing in an audience of millions as well.
With a total prize purse of €25,000, the winners of the Belgian League will not only get a chance to win big, they will also qualify for the European Masters twice a year, an opportunity to showcase Belgian quality on a more global scale.
Proximus will follow in the footsteps of current league partners Audi, Burger King and OMEN.
